The Romans brought Christianity to Britain but Christians were seen as a danger to the state until Emperor Constantine became a Christian in AD 313 (although it seems that he still worshipped other gods too). Christianity became the official religion of the Empire early in the 4th Century and Constantine banned crucifixion and made Sunday a day of rest.
