More cattle and pig bones are found in sites that are more Romanized such as forts and large towns. Writings such as the Vindolanda tablets show what provisions the army required. For example, Verecundus' slave negotiates to buy '... chickens, twenty, a hundred apples, if you can find nice ones, a hundred or two hundred eggs, if they are for sale there at a fair price...'
