Archaeologists looked at strontium and oxygen in the tooth enamel of 40 individuals buried in Winchester between AD 200 and AD 400. This gives them an idea of the areas in which these people grew up. The results suggest that up to a quarter of these individuals came from outside Britain, some from colder, Central European areas such as, maybe, Hungary and others from warmer areas such as the Southern Mediterranean.
